Jesus Christ: The One who is alive from everlasting ages past!
Micah 5 :
2. O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
you are but a small Judean village,
yet you will be the birthplace of my King
who is alive from everlasting ages past!
LB
Bethlehem had been an insignificant Judean village until King David began to rule Israel. Then everyone knew about Bethlehem because it was the place where David was born.
But God had promised David that a descendant of his would be a greater King than David had ever been. This Great King would also, like David, be born in Bethlehem. But according to the prophet Micah, there would be something very different about this King: He would be alive from everlasting ages past!
How can Someone born in Bethlehem be alive from everlasting ages past? To humans that is impossible!
But that is exactly true about the Lord Jesus, God's King who was a descendant of King David and who was also born in Bethlehem.
Before His human birth, He was alive. As a matter of fact, before the beginning - whenever that was - He was alive! As far back as time goes, and then before that, Jesus Christ has been there because He is God and He is our Creator.
At the end of time - whenever that will be - He will wrap up everything and be our Judge.
Have you come to terms with who Jesus Christ really is?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I have thought of You as a Baby in Bethlehem.
But I am now understanding WHO You really are:
the One who was there before the beginning and who will be there after the end.
Your are indeed King of Kings and Lord of Lords,
and You shall reign forever and ever,
Amen. |
The Inspiration for this collection of thoughts about Jesus, came from this children's hymn:
Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear;
Things I would ask Him to tell me if He were here;
Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.
First let me hear how the children stood round His knee,
And I shall fancy His blessing resting on me;
Words full of kindness, deeds full of grace,
All in the love light of Jesus' face.
Tell me, in accents of wonder, how rolled the sea,
Tossing the boat in a tempest on Galilee;
And how the Maker, ready and kind,
Chided the billows, and hushed the wind.
Into the city I'd follow the children's band,
Waving a branch of the palm tree high in my hand.
One of His heralds, yes, I would sing
Loudest hosannas, "Jesus is King!"
Show me that scene in the garden, of bitter pain.
Show me the cross where my Savior for me was slain.
Sad ones or bright ones, so that they be
Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.
Now that next scene in the garden, Bright Morning Son,
Where He arose from the grave, our freedom is won!
Now at God's right hand, "Glory," we sing
To our Lord Jesus, Worship our King!
